Duties and Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities of the intern will depend on the individual's background and may include, but are not limited to: • Contributing to and supporting legal research on international human rights standards, including treaty bodies and relevant jurisprudence. • Assisting in the compilation and analysis of legal and policy information related to access to justice, enforced disappearance, transitional justice, and non-recurrence. • Supporting the drafting of background notes and other technical or analytical documents. • Assisting in the preparation of summaries and analytical materials. • Supporting the organization and systematization of information relevant to ongoing projects or initiatives. • Performing other duties as requested by the supervisor, as appropriate.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Academic background in law, international relations, political science or related fields is required. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. We are looking for candidates with strong research and analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to draft clearly and effectively. The ability to work independently and collaboratively is desirable. Ability to conduct legal research and analyze international human rights standards, as well as to draft legal or policy-oriented documents, is desirable. Familiarity with international human rights law, transitional justice, or related areas is an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of English or another official United Nations language is an advantage.
