A stale vacancy is worse than no vacancy.
Anyone can publish a big number of listings. The number that actually matters is how quickly the board catches up to reality — new postings appearing fast, and closed ones disappearing just as fast. That's what we mean by freshness, and it's the metric we optimize the aggregation engine for.
How we keep the index current
Official sources only
We ingest directly from each organization's own career site or feed — never from a secondary board — so re-checking often is possible without waiting on someone else's cache.
Checked, not assumed
Every source is checked at least daily, most several times a day. A listing that vanishes from its source is marked as no longer listed on the next check, not left to rot.
Reported, including failures
When a source check fails, it shows up as a red dot on the coverage page — not as a silently stale count. We'd rather show an error than a number we can't stand behind.

Questions
What is a "freshness score"?
It's how we judge a jobs index: not just how many vacancies it lists, but how quickly it reflects reality — new postings appearing fast, and closed or withdrawn postings disappearing fast. A board full of vacancies that closed weeks ago scores badly on freshness even if the raw count looks big.
How often does changemaker check its sources?
Every source is checked at least once a day, and most several times a day. We pull directly from each organization's own career site or feed rather than from a secondary board, which is what makes frequent re-checking possible. See check times per source
What happens when a vacancy closes?
The next check no longer sees it on the source, so it's marked as no longer listed rather than kept around indefinitely. We would rather a listing disappear on schedule than sit stale and waste your time on a dead application.
Can I verify this myself, or do I have to take your word for it?

Why does freshness matter more for UN and IGO jobs specifically?
International-organization vacancies often carry hard deadlines, roster and eligibility windows, and short application periods. A listing that's already closed by the time you find it isn't just noise — it costs you a shot you didn't know you'd missed.
