Position Overview

The Mason is responsible for performing a wide range of masonry, paving, and structural repair tasks across both Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) and the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE). The role includes the masonry maintenance & renovation of aging structures at KGH, new construction and finishing works, paving and flooring works, and other works critical to hospitals facilities structural functionality and safety. The mason works under the supervision of the Head of Maintenance will ensure all masonry works meet structural and hygiene standards suitable for healthcare settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties & Responsibilities. 

• Carry out masonry repairs and renovation works on deteriorated building structure - walls, foundations, and floors within hospital facility.
• Perform paving works, including laying concrete or interlocking tiles in outdoor areas, walkways, ramps, access pathways, curbs, and retaining structures for drainage or landscape control.
• Restore or rebuild damaged brickwork, plastering, and concrete finishes in wards, corridors, and utility areas.
• Perform patch works maintenance on wall surfaces in sanitary areas, including toilets, bathrooms, and drainage structures.
• Execute new masonry works, such as block laying, minor structural reinforcements, modifying rooms by demarcations or expanding units as needed.
• Ensure proper finishing on building structures by plastering, screeding, tile fixing, and concrete casting for extensions or ongoing installations.
• Ensure the mortar and concrete mix are in accordance with specified mix ratio, and that other construction specifications are met.
• Assist with final finishing works, including alignment, leveling, and rendering for aesthetic and functional purposes.
• Follow architectural and engineering specifications for all construction and repair tasks.
• Ensure proper curing of concrete and plasters to avoid cracking or premature damage.
• Maintain cleanliness of job sites and comply with safety standards, especially in patient-care areas.
• Conduct routine inspections of on building structures across the hospital to ensure functionality and safety; 
• Address urgent repair needs in wards, operation rooms, offices, and other rooms; 
• Assess material needs and make requests for supplies such as cement, chippings, sand, laterite etc.
• Work closely with the hospital’s maintenance, operation, and environmental services teams to support infrastructural projects;  
• Collaborate with external contractors or technicians when necessary; 
• Ensure all masonry work complies with hospital facility standard 
• Use protective equipment and follow occupational health and safety procedures.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

Education & Training Requirements.

• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in masonry and construction work.
• Experience working on both renovation of old buildings and construction of new facilities.
• Skilled in bricklaying, plastering, concrete mixing, tile and block work, and paving.

• Having a skill in painting or tiling will be an added advantage.

• Ability to interpret basic building plans & sketches.
• Ability to deliver high-quality finishing and accurate levels.
• Experience in a hospital facility settings is a plus.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to varied construction conditions.
• Team player, responsive to supervision, and proactive in identifying maintenance needs.
