Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the voice for the environment within the United Nations system, acting as a catalyst, advocate, educator, and facilitator to promote sustainable development through the effective use of the global environment. Its Industry and Economy Division (IED) plays a leading role in the Green Economy Initiative, which aims to shift national economies towards a sustainable trajectory. By doing so, it seeks to ensure growth is driven by increased investment in green sectors and a shift of consumers’ preferences toward sustainable goods and services. Located within this Division, the Finance and Economics Branch examines the manner in which economics, trade, and finance interact with the environment, thereby contributing to sustainable development at the local, national, regional, and global levels. It does so by working with countries through analytical studies in partnerships with UN agencies, intergovernmental institutions, governments, academic institutes, businesses, and civil society organizations to support the shift to an inclusive green economy. Among its areas of work, the Economic and Fiscal Policy Unit (EFPU) supports global efforts on green fiscal policy reforms by advising countries on how fiscal policies can support the inclusive green economy and thus the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals across different sectors. The intern will support the NZNP Global Platform in the following areas: •Global events and engagement: Support the planning, coordination and delivery of global and regional events, including high-level meetings, workshops, conferences and events held alongside major international processes. This may include preparing agendas, invitations, speaker materials, briefing notes, presentations, participant communications and post-event follow-up. Manage the contact lists regularly updating it, adding new and deleting out-of-date contacts. Share with team members monthly to keep lists relevant. Draft event concepts, scene-setters, run-of-shows, and briefs for those participating at events on behalf of NZNP IP. •Outreach and newsletters: Support regular outreach to NZNP countries, implementing partners, donors and other stakeholders, including the preparation and dissemination of newsletters, project updates, announcements and other targeted communications. Keep the newsletter contact list updated. Collect content from teams and partners and present it in a visual and engaging way for newsletter distribution. •Website and digital communications: Support the development and ongoing management of the NZNP Global Platform’s web presence, including drafting and updating website content, organizing resources, identifying stories and maintaining accurate and engaging information on project activities and results. Support visual assets collection such as photos and graphics. Draft captions and alternative text for photos to ensure those adhere to accessibility standards. Ensure photo credits are clear and metadata is saved in NZNP shared folders in an organized way. •Content development and storytelling: Draft, edit and package communications materials that translate technical project work into accessible and compelling content, including articles, success stories, web features, factsheets, presentations, event materials and other communications products. Support development of fact sheets collected from partner countries ensuring they are consistent, concise, and aligned with project templates and branding. •Partner communications and amplification: Coordinate with participating countries, UNEP teams, implementing agencies and other partners to gather communications inputs and support coordinated promotion of joint activities, events, publications and results. •Communications planning: Support implementation of the Global Platform’s communications and outreach activities, including maintaining communications calendars, tracking upcoming events and milestones, organizing communications assets and identifying opportunities for increased visibility. •Knowledge products: Support the design, editing, packaging and dissemination of NZNP knowledge products and technical publications for different audiences. Support developing outreach plans for each knowledge product suggesting ways to increase promotion to target audience. •Monitoring and analytics: Support tracking of communications activities, website engagement, newsletter performance, event participation and other relevant indicators to help assess reach and inform future communications efforts. •Undertake other communications and outreach activities in support of the NZNP Global Platform as requested.
