The United Nations in Zimbabwe, through its Disability Inclusion initiatives, is working to promote awareness, dialogue, and engagement on the meaningful inclusion of persons with disabilities in development, humanitarian, and peacebuilding efforts. As part of these efforts, a Disability Inclusion Event will be held on 12 October 2026, bringing together government representatives, United Nations agencies, organizations of persons with disabilities, civil society organizations, youth representatives, and development partners.
To maximize the reach and impact of the event, there is a need for dedicated online communications support before, during, and after the event. The communications campaign aims to increase public awareness of disability inclusion, amplify the voices of persons with disabilities, encourage participation in discussions, and sustain engagement beyond the event itself.
Online Volunteers will support the development and dissemination of digital content and help foster meaningful online conversations across social media platforms.
We are looking for 4 Online Volunteers with experience in communications, social media management, digital engagement, or content creation.
The Online Volunteers will support communications efforts in the lead-up to, during, and following the Disability Inclusion Event. Responsibilities may include:
• Developing and scheduling social media content to promote the event.
• Creating engaging digital content, including social media captions, graphics concepts, and key messages.
• Supporting live online engagement during the event through social media platforms.
• Monitoring comments, messages, and online discussions and facilitating respectful and constructive engagement.
• Identifying opportunities to amplify event content through relevant networks and partners.
• Drafting social media summaries, highlights, and success stories following the event.
• Supporting the collection and organization of social media analytics and engagement metrics.
• Promoting key disability inclusion messages and ensuring communications reflect inclusive and accessible language principles.
The Online Volunteers will work closely with the UNV and UN communications focal points to ensure consistency of messaging and alignment with event objectives.
This assignment provides an opportunity to contribute to a high-visibility United Nations initiative while gaining experience in inclusive communications, social media engagement, and disability inclusion advocacy.
