Job Description
Are you a motivated student eager to make an impact? Do you want hands-on experience in strategic communications within the international development sector? Join SNV's Power for Food Partnership Team as our Communications Intern in The Hague!
Note: This internship is open to students enrolled in an accredited Dutch or European university for the duration of the internship.

As the Power for Food Communications Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn about strategic communications aimed at transforming food systems and become a part of the Power for Food Partnership team. This team coordinates a multi-country, multi-year partnership that promotes the nexus between regenerative agriculture and renewable energy for sustainable and resilient food systems, working with ecosystem actors across Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. You will engage in various communications projects and tasks, strengthening your skills in content development, digital communications, visual storytelling and cross-country coordination. Specifically, you will support the development and implementation of communications campaigns, contribute to Power for Food Partnership's website and social media content, and help document and share stories of change from across the Power for Food Partnership.
This internship offers a unique chance to:
- Gain hands-on experience in strategic communications for food systems transformation by working on real campaigns, digital content and storytelling for the Power for Food Partnership.
- Receive mentorship and regular coaching from strategic communications and influencing professionals in a dynamic, international team.
- Develop skills in content creation, visual storytelling, cross-country coordination and collaborative working across diverse cultural contexts.
- Contribute to visible, impactful communications that highlight tangible changes in the food and energy sectors and support the broader transition to integrated regenerative agriculture and renewable energy approaches.
Your tasks will be tailored to align with your learning goals and interests, providing a meaningful experience. We will offer guidance and support to help you reach your objectives.
Tasks and activities may include:
- Support the development and implementation of communications campaigns for the Power for Food Partnership, including drafting and adapting content for the website, social media channels and other digital platforms.
- Assist with designing visuals such as event graphics, spotlights and other communications assets.
- Support the maintenance and updating of the Power for Food website, including drafting pages for publications, news items and partnership updates and supporting their publication.
- Contribute to the design and production of communications products (e.g., one-pagers, factsheets, presentation visuals).
- Support the maintenance of a content calendar for Power for Food communications across the partnership countries, proactively collecting input, stories and updates from country teams and partners for publication through Power for Food channels.
- Assist with developing “stories of change” that illustrate tangible improvements among the ecosystem actors and how the wider system is shifting, in close collaboration with the Power for Food communications team.
- Support the integration of emerging evidence and key recommendations from across the partnership into communications materials, ensuring consistency and alignment with Power for Food’s key messages.
- Organise and maintain communications-related databases, documents and digital resources to support efficient workflow and knowledge sharing within the team.
Qualifications
We are looking for a motivated student who is:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at an accredited Dutch or European university in a field such as Communications, Journalism, International Development, Political Science, Environmental Studies, or a related area.
- Eager to learn and contribute to a team-oriented, international environment.
- Proficient in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills; strong editing and design skills are an advantage.
- Highly organised, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Comfortable working with digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, content management systems, social media platforms); basic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express) are a plus.
- Strong interest in strategic communications and translating evidence and recommendations into clear communications materials.
- Transparent in their work, open to asking for guidance, and receptive to constructive feedback where needed.
- Available for a minimum of 4 months and preferably 6 months, ideally between 24-40 hours per week.
- Flexible starting date with a preference for November 2026.

Our offer to you:
SNV offers a hands-on, dynamic internship experience with a dedicated team at our head office in The Hague. To ensure a valuable learning experience, we ask interns to work from the office in The Hague for at least 75% of the time. Additional details include:
- Internship allowance: €500 gross per month (for a 40-hour workweek, prorated for fewer hours), plus reimbursement for public transport costs (if applicable).
- International experience, working alongside colleagues from around the world.

- The internship must be clearly relevant to the student’s field of study and SNV may request a short-written confirmation from the student or university if necessary.
- The university must facilitate the internship, and a university supervisor or mentor must be identified, with full name and contact details shared with SNV.
- The intern must have the legal right to reside in the Netherlands for the full internship period. SNV does not sponsor visas or residence or work permits for interns.
