Result of Service
The United Nations Convention against Cybercrime; Strengthening International Cooperation for Combating Certain Crimes Committed by Means of Information and Communications Technology Systems and for the Sharing of Evidence in Electronic Form of Serious Crimes, was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 79/243 of 24 December 2024. It represents the first global treaty addressing cybercrime and enhancing international cooperation on electronic evidence of serious crimes. Advancing domestic ratification processes often requires coordinated engagement among relevant ministries and institutions, as well as a clear understanding of treaty obligations, and access to practical guidance. While a number of signatory States have expressed interest in ratifying the Convention, many continue to face procedural and institutional challenges, including limited familiarity with treaty processes, competing legislative priorities and fragmented inter-ministerial coordination mechanisms. In this context, timely and demand-driven technical assistance can help States assess the Convention in light of their national legal, policy and institutional frameworks, while preserving the nationally led nature of ratification processes.
