Driver: Pretoria, South Africa

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the European Union’s bank. It works in support of EU development and economic co-operation policies by financing investment in both public and private sectors. The EIB is seeking to recruit for its Representation in Pretoria, a Driver. This is a full-time position.

This is a 3-year fixed term contract based in the EIB Office in Pretoria, South Africa.

Please be informed that this position is identified as a Local Agent (EIB Local Employee serving in a non-EU country) and kindly note that the recruitment process and subsequent employment conditions for the selected candidate are subject to local labour and tax law compliance in the country of employment, as well as treated in the context of the local market. 

Purpose:

The position combines driving, vehicle management, and administrative responsibilities, supporting the effective day-to-day operation of the office through safe transport services, diligent vehicle upkeep, and proactive administrative assistance.

Operating network:

You will report to the Head of External Office and Office Manager.

Accountabilities: 

  • Transport the Head of the office to the different meetings and appointments 

  • Transport EIB employees and delegations (local and Head office) to and from the airport and to meetings and appointments

  • Maintain the vehicles - you should inform the Head of Office of any faults discerned in the vehicle and make minor repairs if possible

  • Take the vehicles to the garage for servicing and repair

  • Take the vehicles to the car wash to maintain them in a spotless condition

  • Ensure that the vehicles are full of fuel, charged and ready to drive

  • Provide support to EIB events (Europe Day, cocktails, etc.)

  • Upon request, provide basic office support, including collection of office materials, delivery of letters and documents, and whatever other need regarding the messenger services at the necessary time 

  • Provide basic administrative support to the Head of Office and Office Manager when required and if the schedule would allow

  • Driving to other regions on occasion may be required as per EIB travel policy

Qualifications:

  • Secondary level education

  • Valid driving permit Category B and clean driving record

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience. Previous experience as a driver, preferably for a Governmental or International Organization would be an advantage

  • Excellent driving skills - defensive driving

  • Valid professional driving permit (PrDP)

  • Knowledge of local area – roads and customs

  • Knowledge and experience in the use of basic computer and communication tools (Microsoft Outlook, smartphone, messaging) 

  • Excellent command of English 

  • Dynamism and proactivity, discretion and excellent personal presentation

  • Car maintenance basic skills would be an advantage 

  • Professional first aid training and basic training on physical security of passengers would be an advantage

  • Experience working in an international, diplomatic or multicultural environment would be an advantage.

The position is open to nationals of South Africa/permanent residency. Although mainly operating from Pretoria, the successful candidate should also be prepared to travel within the region and occasionally to Europe or headquarters in Luxembourg.
