The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is one of IFC’s major industry groups and is responsible for a significant share of IFC’s business globally.
FIG engages across a wide range of sub-sectors including Microfinance, SME Finance, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, Distressed Assets, Global Trade Finance, and other financial sector activities. FIG provides investment and advisory solutions to financial institutions and market participants across emerging markets, helping them expand access to finance, strengthen sustainability practices, and contribute to economic growth. Advisory services are closely coordinated with investment operations and support clients in building capacity in areas such as sustainable finance, climate finance, risk management, governance, and capital market development.
Sustainable finance and the mobilization of private capital are strategic priorities of the World Bank Group. IFC is working with financial institutions, investors, stock exchanges, regulators, and private sector companies to help develop sustainable financial markets, increase climate-related investments, and strengthen the financial sector’s contribution to economic development and job creation. As part of these efforts, the FIG LAC Advisory team is implementing several initiatives focused on sustainable finance, climate finance, corporate governance, and capital market development.
These include IFC's 30by30 Mexico Program, which seeks to accelerate private sector climate finance through interventions across financial institutions, capital markets, and the broader enabling environment, as well as the Sustainable Capital Markets Program, a regional initiative aimed at expanding access to long-term financing for medium-sized companies and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) through stronger governance, greater transparency, improved disclosure standards, investor mobilization, and innovative capital market solutions.
The FIG Latin America and Caribbean Advisory team is seeking an Extended Term Consultant (ETC) to contribute to the implementation, coordination, and expansion of these initiatives and other advisory projects across the region. This posting is for one position posted across multiple possible duty stations that includes Mexico City and Panama City. The selected candidate's duty station will be determined based on organizational requirements and business needs.
The ETC will work closely with IFC advisory and investment teams, clients, regulators, development partners, investors, and market participants to support the development of sustainable and inclusive financial markets. The ETC will be part of the FIG LAC Advisory Services team and will support the design, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and business development of advisory projects focused on Sustainable finance and climate finance, Sustainable capital market development, and Financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions.
The ETC will provide analytical, technical, operational, and project management support across multiple workstreams, with a primary focus on Mexico and selected regional initiatives across Latin America and the Caribbean. The ETC will report to the Senior Operations Officer leading the 30x30 and Sustainable Capital Markets Program, under the FIG LAC and Europe Advisory services Manager. Duties and Accountabilities 1.
Business Development and Market Analysis The ETC will support the team in identifying and developing advisory opportunities and client engagements aligned with IFC's strategic priorities. Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting market, sector, regulatory, and stakeholder research.
- Supporting the preparation of proposals, pitch presentations, concept notes, and business development materials.
- Analyzing opportunities related to sustainable finance, climate finance, capital markets, corporate governance, financial inclusion, and ESG integration.
- Mapping and assessing financial institutions, NBFIs, issuers, investors, stock exchanges, regulators, and industry associations.
- Supporting discussions with existing and prospective clients and partners.
- Contributing to the identification of opportunities that can strengthen capital markets, mobilize private capital, and increase access to finance. 2. Project Design and Implementation The ETC will support project delivery throughout the IFC project cycle, from project design through implementation and completion. Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting project design, planning, budgeting, staffing, and monitoring frameworks.
- Assisting with project launches, internal approval processes, legal documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Coordinating project activities, meetings, workshops, trainings, missions, and stakeholder consultations.
- Supporting the preparation of technical reports, client deliverables, presentations, and implementation roadmaps.
- Assisting in the delivery of advisory activities related to sustainable finance, climate finance, governance, risk management, disclosure frameworks, issuer readiness, and investor engagement.
- Supporting capacity-building activities for financial institutions, issuers, investors, regulators, exchanges, and other market participants. 3. Stakeholder Engagement and Market Development The ETC will support engagement with a broad range of public and private sector stakeholders involved in the development of sustainable financial markets. Responsibilities may include:
- Coordinating with clients, consultants, investors, financial institutions, NBFIs, stock exchanges, regulators, development partners, and industry associations.
- Supporting the organization of industry events, conferences, roundtables, trainings, workshops, and working groups.
- Facilitating collaboration among IFC, the World Bank, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Contributing to initiatives that promote sustainable finance, climate finance, good governance, capital market development, and private sector participation. 4. Research, Technical and Knowledge Support The ETC will contribute analytical and technical support across the team's portfolio. Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Preparing market diagnostics, benchmarking exercises, sector assessments, and analytical reports.
- Supporting research related to sustainable finance regulations, taxonomies, disclosure frameworks, climate risk management, governance standards, financial inclusion, and capital market development.
- Synthesizing technical information into clear and actionable recommendations.
- Developing presentations, briefing materials, dashboards, and knowledge products for internal and external audiences.
- Supporting the dissemination of lessons learned and best practices across countries and projects. 5. Project Management, Monitoring and Reporting The ETC will support the operational management of projects and the overall portfolio. Responsibilities may include:
- Tracking project activities, deliverables, milestones, budgets, and workplans.
- Coordinating supervision reporting, monitoring and evaluation activities, and KPI tracking.
- Updating project information within IFC systems and maintaining project documentation.
- Supporting consultant procurement, contracting processes, and vendor management.
- Assisting with donor reporting, management reporting, budgeting exercises, and portfolio reviews.
- Helping ensure compliance with IFC policies, procedures, and project management requirements. 6. Coordination and Communication The ETC will support effective communication and coordination across project teams and stakeholders. Responsibilities may include:
- Maintaining regular communication with project teams, management, clients, and partners.
- Supporting coordination across multiple projects, workstreams, and countries.
- Contributing to internal and external communication materials.
- Preparing management updates, summaries, and briefing notes.
- Capturing lessons learned, emerging market trends, and opportunities for replication and scale-up.
