Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the UN Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote disaster preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions. OCHA’s Liaison Office (LO) to ASEAN (focuses on strengthening complementarity between international and regional mechanisms on humanitarian issues, by working closely with the ASEAN Secretariat and the AHA Centre and engaging key counterparts), bilateral and Dialogue partners to ASEAN. The LO serves as the principal coordinator of All 16 of contributing UN agencies funds and programmes (AFPS), in the development and implementation of the ASEAN-UN Joint Strategic Plan of Action on Disaster Management (JSPADM) 2026-2030. The LO also provides technical expertise and support to the local counterparts and partners on disaster management in the areas of Anticipatory Action and humanitarian coordination and localization. This internship will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The intern shall be under the general guidance and supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Analyst. The internship is being offered for an initial period of three months, extendable by another three months subject to the mutual agreement by both parties.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the UN Internship programme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a university’s baccalaureate programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or c) Have graduated from a university and obtain a baccalaureate degree in 2025 or 2026. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent) or Master's Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Candidates for the UN Internship Programme are required to cover the cost of travel including visa, accommodation, health insurance and other living expenses for the duration of the internship. Languages
For this internship fluency in English and Indonesian (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage i.e. Chinese is an advantage.
