Background
The NYOTA Business Development Services (BDS) package provides tailored entrepreneurship support to refugee and host-community youth in Kakuma/Kalobeyei and Dadaab. Mentorship is a structured post-training component designed to reinforce BDS learning, support business development and problem-solving, facilitate market and service linkages, and strengthen the confidence and resilience of young entrepreneurs. The BDS ToR requires at least four mentorship sessions over four months, beginning after the first grant disbursement and continuing across the two grant tranches.

What you will do:

The Project Coordinator (Master Trainer) will provide technical leadership for the delivery of the NYOTA Business Development Services (BDS) package to refugee youths. The Coordinator will ensure that BDS training is practical, inclusive, contextually appropriate and delivered to the required quality standards.

The Coordinator will lead and support the Training of Trainers (ToT), support coaching   and technical supervision of  BDS trainers to ensure consistent and effective delivery. The Coordinator will contribute to programme quality assurance, monitoring, learning, and reporting, ensuring that training outcomes are effectively tracked and continuously improved.

The role will support youth participants to establish, strengthen, and sustain viable businesses, enhancing their employability, entrepreneurship, and economic resilience responding to realities in refugee set ups.

Working under the overall supervision of the Task Team Leader and in close coordination with MSEA and other relevant stakeholders, the Coordinator will help ensure the achievement of project objectives, the quality of service delivery, and the attainment of measurable results.

 

  1. Coordinate the delivery of training and capacity-building activities within the assigned area of responsibility, ensuring quality and consistency with approved programme standards and methodologies.

  2. Provide technical support and guidance to trainers, facilitators and other relevant programme staff to strengthen the quality of programme delivery.

  3. Lead or support training of trainers, coaching and capacity-building activities, including assessing training needs, observing delivery and providing structured feedback.

  4. Conduct routine quality assurance of training activities, methodologies, materials and delivery approaches, and follow up on identified quality gaps.

  5. Promote practical, inclusive and participant-centred learning approaches that are responsive to participant needs and the operational context.

  6. Contribute to programme monitoring, learning and quality improvement through collection and analysis of feedback, documentation of lessons learned and identification of recommendations for programme adaptation.

  7. Ensure accurate and timely documentation, monitoring and reporting of training and related programme activities in accordance with NRC requirements.

  8. Promote safeguarding, protection, PSEA, accountability and Safe and Inclusive Programming principles throughout programme delivery.

  9. Coordinate and collaborate effectively with relevant NRC teams, partners and stakeholders to support quality programme implementation.

  10. Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures, and a specific responsibility for the functions policies and procedures 

Specific responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery and quality assurance of the approved NYOTA BDS curriculum across assigned locations, ensuring consistent application of the approved training methodology, standards, delivery schedules and MSEA requirements.

  • Facilitate practical, experiential and participant-centred BDS sessions, adapting examples, case studies and exercises to local market realities, refugee and host-community contexts, and participants’ literacy, language, ability and learning needs.

  • Deliver and reinforce core business skills, including financial literacy, record keeping, marketing, customer relations, business planning, digital tools and market access, alongside entrepreneurial mindset and socio-emotional skills such as initiative, resilience, communication, teamwork, goal setting and problem solving.

  • Connect classroom learning to participants’ existing businesses, business ideas and market opportunities, providing technical guidance on enterprise development, market identification, business challenges and relevant market, value-chain, financial and business-network linkages.

  • Lead or co-facilitate approved Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes, assess trainer readiness, conduct trainer observations and provide ongoing coaching and structured feedback to address identified training delivery gaps.

  • Work closely with mentors to ensure mentorship reinforces the BDS curriculum and responds to participants’ business needs, including providing technical guidance, supporting referrals and contributing to structured post-training follow-up.

  • Conduct routine quality assurance of BDS training sessions, materials, attendance, trainer deployment and participant engagement, and follow up on identified gaps to ensure consistent delivery across assigned locations.

  • Collect and analyse participant and trainer feedback and use findings, together with implementation experience, to recommend adaptations and improvements to BDS delivery.

  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance documentation and required programme data, and ensure training and progress reports are submitted within agreed timelines.

  • Document lessons learned, good practices, implementation challenges and recommendations to support programme learning, adaptation and reporting.

  • Ensure gender-responsive, disability-inclusive, culturally appropriate and safe learning approaches are applied throughout NYOTA BDS delivery, including appropriate confidential feedback and referral mechanisms.

  • Coordinate closely with the NYOTA Team Lead/Manager, BDS Officers, trainers, mentors and other programme teams, and engage with MSEA and relevant government, UN, NGO, private-sector and community stakeholders as required.

  • Support the delivery of business information, networking and market-linkage activities as assigned.

  • Any other tasks as delegated by the line manager.

     

What you will bring

 professional competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship, business management, business administration, economics, development studies, livelihoods or a related field.

  • Minimum three (3) years of specific experience and demonstrated technical capacity in implementing BDS and/or entrepreneurship programmes, including business/entrepreneurship training.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.

  • Knowledge of Swahili, Arabic, French or other languages commonly used in Kenyan refugee settings is an advantage.

  • Experience working in Kakuma/Kalobeyei and/or Dadaab is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience working with youth and vulnerable populations, preferably in refugee or displacement-affected settings.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering Training of Trainers and coaching or supervising trainers.

  • Practical experience supporting early-stage businesses in the micro and small enterprise sector.

  • Understanding of gender-responsive and disability-inclusive programming.

  • Strong facilitation, communication, coaching and interpersonal skills.
