About IRRI

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

Job Purpose

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), with the support of the Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, has established the IRRI South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. ISARC serves as a regional platform for research collaboration, capacity building, training, and service provision to institutions, scientists, farmers, and other stakeholders across India, South Asia, and Africa.

Building on the promising outcomes of the Carbon Offsetting Rice Emissions (CORE) project, IRRI and Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS) have extended their collaboration through a new initiative entitled “Andhra Pradesh Natural Farming and Low Emission Rice Systems (AP-NATURES)”. The AP-NATURES project aims to generate scientific evidence on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and water management under Natural Farming (NF) and Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) systems. The project will develop an emissions database and establish emission factors to model the spatial and temporal distribution of GHG emissions and mitigation potential under NF and AWD, while also generating evidence on improved water management practices, water-use efficiency (WUE), and water productivity (WP) under Natural Farming systems. To achieve these objectives, five implementation activities will be undertaken across 18 farmers’ fields in East Godavari, Eluru, and West Godavari districts during Kharif 2026 and Rabi 2026–27.

The Research Technician will provide dedicated technical and field-level support to facilitate the implementation and timely completion of the planned project activities. The incumbent will assist in coordinating field activities, supporting data collection and monitoring, maintaining project records, and coordinating with farmers and other relevant stakeholders. The incumbent’s support will be essential for ensuring timely field implementation, accurate documentation and data collection, and successful completion of the project deliverables within the defined project period.

This position will be based in the Hyderabad and may only be filled by permanent citizens of India.
