Job Purpose

Responsible for the technical design, site implementation, supervision, testing and commissioning of electrical works, with particular responsibility for solar energy systems. The position supports needs assessment, technical specifications, BOQs, drawings, contractor supervision, quality assurance, electrical safety and handover of solar photovoltaic and associated electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct technical site assessments and identify electrical rehabilitation, replacement and installation needs in targeted areas, including solar energy opportunities.
  2. Prepare and review electrical and solar PV BOQs, technical specifications, single-line diagrams, layouts, drawings, method statements and equipment schedules.
  3. Supervise and monitor electrical and solar PV works in accordance with approved designs, BOQs, specifications, work plans, safety procedures and applicable standards.
  4. Inspect and verify the quality and conformity of PV modules, inverters, batteries, charge controllers, protection devices, cables, earthing systems and other electrical materials and equipment.
  5. Supervise installation, wiring, cable routing, earthing, protection, configuration, testing and commissioning of solar PV and associated electrical systems.
  6. Verify system performance and functionality through appropriate tests and measurements and ensure that identified defects and non-conformities are corrected before handover.
  7. Monitor quantities and completed works, support measurement and certification of contractor works, and maintain accurate site records and progress documentation.
  8. Coordinate with civil, mechanical, procurement, logistics, MEAL and other field teams to ensure proper integration of electrical and solar works with other project components.
  9. Review contractor work plans, method statements, technical submissions and equipment data sheets and provide technical recommendations to the Project Officer.
  10. Prepare regular technical progress reports, inspection reports, testing and commissioning records, punch lists, handover documents and records of corrective actions.
  11. Carry out any other duties related to the position as requested by the direct manager.

Qualification (Education/Work Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering,Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • Hands-on experience with solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including sizing, installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with inverters, batteries/energy storage systems, protection devices, cabling, grounding systems, and electrical distribution.

  1. Technical Competencies:

Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and related reporting tools).

Experience with AutoCAD and ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and single-line diagrams.

Good technical knowledge of solar PV system design, installation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance.

Good knowledge of electrical protection, earthing, cable sizing, system performance verification and electrical safety.

Good knowledge of contractor supervision, BOQ measurement, quality control and technical reporting.

Experience working with NGOs or humanitarian infrastructure projects is an advantage.
