UNFPA India supports the Government of India and other partners to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, prevention and response to gender-based violence (GBV), adolescent and youth well-being, family planning, maternal health and other priorities under its programme framework. These priorities are interconnected and require rights-based, gender-responsive and inclusive approaches across policies, programmes and service delivery.

The evolving demographic, social, environmental and humanitarian context also creates emerging challenges for access to and continuity of essential SRHR services and for the protection and well-being of women, girls, adolescents and other vulnerable populations. Climate change, extreme weather events, disasters and humanitarian situations can exacerbate existing inequalities, increase protection risks and disrupt access to health, information and support services.

The assignment will therefore support UNFPA India across its broader SRHR and related thematic priorities, with particular attention to gender equality, GBV prevention and response, adolescent and youth SRHR, family planning, maternal health, climate resilience and humanitarian preparedness and response. The UNV Specialist will contribute to evidence generation, technical assistance, policy and programme support, stakeholder coordination, capacity building, knowledge management and documentation. The position will also support the integration of gender, rights, inclusion and resilience considerations across relevant UNFPA programmes and assist the team in responding to emerging priorities and programme needs.

Under the overall guidance of the SRHR Specialist and in close coordination with the Programme team, the UNV Specialist will perform the following tasks:

• SRHR, Gender and Climate Resilience: Support integration of climate change, resilience and adaptation into SRHR programming, with attention to maternal health, family planning, GBV prevention and response, adolescent and youth SRHR, and other priority areas, while ensuring gender equality, human rights and inclusion are reflected across programme approaches.

Maintain regular communication and coordination with national and sub-national stakeholders, including relevant government ministries, offices and institutions such as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH), National Institute of Disaster Management (NDMA) and National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), ,development partners and civil society organisations; support consultations and meetings; and facilitate follow-up on agreed actions and priorities
- Policy and National Initiatives: Support UNFPA engagement with relevant national and state-level initiatives on SRHR, gender equality, GBV, adolescent and youth health, climate and health, and humanitarian preparedness by providing technical inputs, compiling evidence and following up on action points.
- State-Level Programme Implementation: Assist states in translating national and thematic priorities into programme implementation, including climate-risk assessment, preparedness and adaptation measures, gender-responsive programming, GBV preparedness and response, adolescent- and youth-responsive SRHR services, capacity building, monitoring and documentation.
• Technical Knowledge Products: Support preparation, adaptation and dissemination of technical guidance, communication tools, training materials, briefs, presentations and other knowledge products on SRHR, gender equality, GBV, adolescent and youth SRHR, climate-resilient and humanitarian-responsive services, and other priority areas.
• Capacity Building: Support capacity-building activities for government counterparts, healthcare providers, implementing partners and other stakeholders on SRHR, gender-responsive programming, GBV prevention and response, adolescent and youth-responsive services, and climate-resilient and humanitarian-responsive service delivery.
• Monitoring, Documentation, and Reporting: Assist with monitoring, documentation and reporting of programme activities, results, lessons learned, good practices and innovations across SRHR, gender, GBV, adolescent and youth, climate resilience and humanitarian preparedness.
• Planning and Coordination Support: Provide timely inputs and updates to the Programme Unit and support planning, coordination and follow-up of activities and deliverables across SRHR, gender, GBV, adolescent and youth, climate resilience and other priority areas.
