Action Lab for Development, with the support of a previous team of UN Online Volunteers – Sidita Zaja, Audrey Leroux, Ongezwa Mpisana, Nahome Isaac, Charles Daniel NDJAB and Marnie Gomes – successfully developed and submitted an expression of interest and grant application to NIYEL, an international development and advocacy organisation based in Dakar, Senegal. ACTLAB was subsequently awarded a grant of CAD 7,329 to implement an Artificial Intelligence for Development (AI4D) project under the Digital and Intelligent Africa (IDIA) Cohort 2 initiative in Cameroon.
The project is being implemented across Francophone Africa by selected nonprofit organisations in participating countries, with ACTLAB leading the Cameroon implementation in Bamenda, Douala and Yaoundé. The initiative is supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, and UK International Development and aims to contribute to a responsible AI ecosystem in which local communities and experts are enabled to address development challenges through safe, inclusive, rights-based and sustainable AI applications, practices and policies.
As part of the Cameroon project, ACTLAB is conducting community mobilisation, workshops and consultations on AI literacy, ethical reflection, community voice, AI governance and responsible AI use, culminating in a national consultation in Yaoundé. The training produced through this assignment will support these activities and help participants understand AI and reflect on how communities can contribute to shaping its responsible use.
Participants may be introduced to and engage with AI platforms such as MoralityCode, ChatGPT and Gemini during the workshops. ACTLAB's MoralityCode AI also includes an AI-powered reflection feature, “Reflect with AI,” within its Dilemma/Stories section, which provides a practical example of AI-assisted ethical reflection.
The online Volunteer will therefore adapt ACTLAB's approved training materials into an accessible online learning session that supports the project's objectives and can be used in both French and English.
Action Lab for Development is seeking two (2) Online Volunteers to independently adapt and record an online training based on ACTLAB’s approved training materials:
“AI Literacy, Ethical Reflection, Community Voice and AI Governance – Using AI, Shaping Our Community.”
Both Online Volunteers will work independently on the same approved training topic, materials and learning objectives provided by ACTLAB.
Training Content
The training will cover:
• AI literacy and practical use of ChatGPT and MoralityCode AI;
• prompt writing, testing and improvement;
• critical evaluation of AI-generated information and its limitations;
• ethical reflection, inclusion and diverse perspectives;
• AI governance and responsible AI decision-making;
• community mobilisation, consultation and participation;
• identifying community needs, concerns and priorities relating to AI; and
• practical community-oriented recommendations and actions.
Online Volunteer Tasks
Each Online Volunteer will:
- Review ACTLAB’s approved training materials and learning objectives for the assigned training.
1. Adapt the provided ACTLAB materials into a clear and structured online training session while maintaining the approved learning objectives and core content.
2. Prepare the training video and supporting examples or activities, using the ACTLAB materials as the primary source.
3. Record the training independently in both French and English, with the online Volunteer appearing on camera to explain and illustrate the training content, examples and activities. Ensure content recorded should be limited to the training content.
4. Submit the completed training videos to ACTLAB for review and make reasonable revisions based on ACTLAB’s feedback.
Expected Output
Each Online Volunteer will submit:
• one complete recorded training in French & the corresponding recorded training in English; and corresponding training script(s).
The training should normally be 45–90 minutes per language. Where appropriate, the training may be divided into shorter modules that together form one coherent training package.
ACTLAB will provide the approved training materials, learning objectives and relevant guidance needed for the Online Volunteer to complete the task.
The Online Volunteer may add relevant examples, practical demonstrations or complementary explanations where these strengthen the approved training.
The Online Volunteer should not substantially change the approved learning objectives, introduce unrelated content or change the scope or direction of the training without prior discussion and approval from ACTLAB.
