Job Description
Join CERN's IC Technology R&D team and contribute to the development of advanced electronics for future particle detectors. We are seeking an engineer with expertise in system-level modelling and digital ASIC design to work at the interface between architecture-level simulation and hardware implementation. In this role, you will help develop and validate innovative electronic systems, bridging high-level design exploration with hands-on digital hardware development.
Your responsibilities
- Develop and use simulation models to study and optimise electronic systems for future particle detectors.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of digital integrated circuits based on system-level specifications.
- Support the verification and validation of electronic designs through simulation and testing.
- Collaborate with engineers, physicists and software developers on the development of advanced detector electronics.
- Help improve the performance, efficiency and reliability of electronic systems.
- Document designs, results and technical developments, and share knowledge within the team.
- This role includes team supervision responsibilities.
Your profile
- Knowledge of digital electronics and digital design gained through academic, research or personal projects.
- Familiarity with hardware description languages such as VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Understanding of system-level modelling, simulation and verification techniques.
- Interest in integrated circuit design and advanced electronics for scientific applications.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and collaborative environments.
Skills
- Good programming skills in C++ and familiarity with Python.
- Knowledge of digital design concepts and hardware description languages such as VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Familiarity with simulation, modelling and software development tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Electronics (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Additional Information
Job closing date: 25.10.2026 at 23:59 CEST.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week
