Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) supports the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team, through the provision of inter-agency coordination support to the UN Country Team (UNCT) and its various inter-agency working mechanisms. . Based in Beijing, the RCO China is looking for a motivated Protocol Intern to join the RCO China office. The duration of this internship is six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Working days will be 5 days a week and 8 hours per day. Under the overall supervision of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, the Protocol Intern will be responsible for supporting the UN Partnership and Financing Officer in engaging with the government counterparts on issues related to protocol. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Prepare draft Note Verbales to government counterparts, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in support of the discharge of mandates for the RCO, UNCT and RCO. • Engage with government counterparts, under the guidance of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, to tackle practical issues related to protocol, contributing to the implementation of the Cooperation Framework. • Support the liaison with the UN Country Team in view of their requests for support from the RCO on protocol-related matters. • Support the incoming high-level UN delegations, including providing both logistics and substantive support.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be in, or have completed, the final academic year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), be currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to demonstrate strong analytical skills, build strong relationships with clients and work independently are functional competencies. Ability to design surveys and draft documents is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese is required for the internship.
