Web Content and Article Development Support for Myanmar Climate Action Week

UN-Habitat Myanmar works to advance sustainable, inclusive and resilient human settlements, with a strong focus on climate adaptation, disaster resilience, nature-based solutions, knowledge sharing and locally led climate action.

In March 2023, UN-Habitat Myanmar launched the Myanmar Climate Action Network (M-CAN) during the first Myanmar Climate Action Week. M-CAN was established as an inclusive platform for non-state climate actors to connect, exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships and promote practical climate action. Myanmar Climate Action Week has since been organized in 2023, 2024 and 2025, bringing together civil society, youth, academia, professional groups, the private sector, development partners and other climate actors to share experiences, showcase initiatives and promote locally relevant solutions.

Building on this momentum, UN-Habitat Myanmar and M-CAN are expanding climate communication and knowledge sharing through the Myanmar Climate Action Campaign 2026. The campaign will highlight practical climate action, locally led solutions, community resilience, partnerships, innovation and lessons emerging from Myanmar Climate Action Week and related climate initiatives.

Web articles and digital content will play an important role in documenting these activities and making climate information, experiences and practical solutions more accessible to wider audiences. Event discussions, presentations, project information, stakeholder contributions, photographs, reports and other programme materials provide valuable content that can be transformed into clear, engaging and informative web stories.

Online Volunteers will support the development of web articles, feature stories, event stories, activity highlights and other digital content based primarily on materials provided or approved by UN-Habitat Myanmar. Their contribution will help document key activities and achievements, communicate climate-action experiences in an accessible format, increase the visibility of locally led initiatives and strengthen knowledge sharing with national, regional and international audiences.

Depending on the assigned topic, Online Volunteers may work with source materials including reports, presentations, event agendas, session notes, photographs, captions, project information, approved quotations, communication materials and publicly available references. Limited background research or fact-checking may also be undertaken where necessary to support accuracy and provide appropriate context.

The content developed through the assignment is expected to support the Myanmar Climate Action digital platform and related UN-Habitat communication and knowledge-sharing channels. It will contribute to building a stronger record of Myanmar Climate Action Campaign and related initiatives while making climate knowledge, experiences and practical solutions easier to understand and share.

Online Volunteers will work remotely under the guidance of the UN-Habitat Myanmar focal point and designated coordinators. They will receive source materials, editorial guidance and feedback to ensure that the final content is accurate, clear, publication-ready and aligned with the objectives of the Myanmar Climate Action Campaign 2026 and applicable UN-Habitat communication standards.

UN-Habitat Myanmar is seeking Online Volunteers to support the development of clear, accurate, engaging, and publication-ready web content and articles based primarily on information and materials provided or approved by UN-Habitat Myanmar.

The assignment will help improve public access to information on climate action in Myanmar, highlight practical experiences and locally led solutions, document activities and achievements, and strengthen knowledge exchange with national, regional, and international audiences.

Main tasks

Working under the guidance of the UN-Habitat Myanmar focal point and designated communication or campaign coordinators, Online Volunteers will:

- Participate in an initial online orientation covering Myanmar Climate Action Week, Myanmar Climate Action Campaign 2026, M-CAN, communication objectives, target audiences, editorial guidance, branding, and expected outputs.
- Review source materials provided by UN-Habitat Myanmar and identify key messages, experiences, results, lessons, and information suitable for web publication.
- Develop web articles, feature stories, event stories, activity highlights, thematic stories, partner or stakeholder stories, and other relevant digital content.
- Prepare approximately 3–4 substantive articles per Online Volunteer, contributing to around 6–8 articles in total across the Online Volunteer team.
- Prepare standard web articles of approximately 600–900 words each. Where appropriate, shorter web updates or event stories of around 300–500 words may also be developed.
- Develop suitable titles, introductions, subheadings, captions, summaries, and other basic editorial elements for web publication.
- Transform technical or detailed information into clear and accessible language while maintaining accuracy and the original meaning.
- Support content highlighting locally led climate action, climate resilience, nature-based solutions, urban climate action, innovation, partnerships, youth engagement, knowledge exchange, and other relevant themes.
- Review photographs, captions, presentations, reports, event agendas, notes, and supporting documentation to strengthen each article.
- Conduct limited background research or fact-checking through reliable public sources where necessary. Volunteers will not be expected to conduct extensive independent research or generate unsupported information.
- Verify names, organizations, event information, dates, figures, quotations, and other factual information against available source materials.
- Submit draft articles for review and revise them based on feedback from the designated UN-Habitat focal point.
- Ensure that content follows UN-Habitat communication guidance and does not independently communicate or imply official UN positions beyond approved information.
- Participate in short virtual coordination meetings when required and maintain a simple record of assigned articles, drafts, revisions, and final submissions.
- Submit final edited versions of assigned articles together with relevant captions, references, or supporting information where requested.

Source materials and research

UN-Habitat Myanmar will provide available source materials according to each assignment. These may include Word documents, PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, event agendas, meeting or session notes, reports, concept notes, briefing materials, photographs and captions, approved quotations, basic data, communication materials, website links, project information, M-CAN materials, and Myanmar Climate Action Week documentation.

The assignment is primarily based on materials supplied or approved by UN-Habitat Myanmar. Online Volunteers will not be required to conduct extensive independent research. Limited supplementary research may be undertaken where necessary for fact-checking, technical clarification, or background context using reliable and publicly available sources.

Volunteers should raise significant information gaps with the designated focal point rather than filling them with assumptions. They should not independently contact partners, government representatives, communities, speakers, donors, or other stakeholders for interviews or additional information unless specifically authorized.

Intellectual property, confidentiality and attribution

Materials shared with Online Volunteers may include working documents, draft information, photographs, presentations, reports, internal notes, event records, or other materials intended solely to support the assignment.

Online Volunteers are expected to respect the confidentiality of non-public information and should not independently publish, distribute, forward, upload, or reuse such materials outside the assignment without prior authorization.

Content developed through the assignment is intended for UN-Habitat communication and knowledge-sharing purposes. Final editorial approval, publication decisions, authorship presentation, acknowledgement, and attribution arrangements will be determined by UN-Habitat in accordance with applicable organizational practices.

Any third-party photographs, quotations, publications, graphics, data, or other materials proposed for use must respect applicable copyright, intellectual property, licensing, consent, and attribution requirements. Volunteers should identify external sources used during drafting so that appropriate attribution can be reviewed before publication.

Working arrangements

The assignment will be implemented remotely. Communication with UN-Habitat Myanmar and designated coordinators will take place primarily through email, virtual meetings, and agreed online collaboration channels.

Online Volunteers may work on separate articles or collaborate on selected pieces depending on the thematic focus, source materials, workload, and publication schedule. Assignments will be distributed according to volunteers' writing experience, interests, availability, and subject matter.

Volunteers will receive source materials and editorial guidance from UN-Habitat Myanmar. They will not be expected to independently communicate official UN positions, represent themselves as UN-Habitat staff or official UN representatives, negotiate partnerships, undertake fundraising, or make commitments on behalf of UN-Habitat or M-CAN.

Most drafting and editing activities can be completed flexibly, although volunteers should make reasonable efforts to participate in scheduled orientation, coordination, and feedback sessions.

Expected outputs

Each Online Volunteer is expected to contribute through an agreed combination of the following outputs:

- Participation in the initial orientation and relevant coordination activities.
- Review and organization of source materials for assigned articles.
- Approximately 3–4 substantive web articles, normally 600–900 words each.
- Where appropriate, shorter 300–500-word web updates or event stories.
- Suitable titles, introductions, subheadings, captions, summaries, and other editorial elements.
- Limited fact-checking and supplementary research using reliable public sources where necessary.
- Revision of draft articles based on editorial feedback.
- Submission of final publication-ready articles and supporting materials.
- A simple record of articles completed, sources used, and revisions undertaken.
- A short final summary of contributions, topics covered, lessons learned, and recommendations where relevant.

The assignment is expected to produce approximately 6–8 substantive web articles or equivalent web-content pieces, depending on source material availability, editorial priorities, and the Myanmar Climate Action Campaign schedule.

The contribution of the Online Volunteer team will help document Myanmar Climate Action Week and related climate initiatives, increase the visibility of locally led climate action, make programme information more accessible, and strengthen knowledge sharing through the Myanmar Climate Action digital platform and related communication channels.
