UN-Habitat Myanmar works to advance sustainable, inclusive and resilient human settlements, with a strong focus on climate adaptation, disaster resilience, nature-based solutions, knowledge sharing and locally led climate action.

In March 2023, UN-Habitat Myanmar launched the Myanmar Climate Action Network (M-CAN) during the first Myanmar Climate Action Week. M-CAN was created as an inclusive platform for non-state climate actors to connect, exchange knowledge and work together on practical climate action. Myanmar Climate Action Week has since been held in 2023, 2024 and 2025, bringing together civil society, youth, academia, professional groups, the private sector, development partners and other climate actors to share experiences, build partnerships and promote locally relevant solutions.

Building on this momentum, UN-Habitat Myanmar and M-CAN are expanding their climate communication and outreach through the Myanmar Climate Action Campaign 2026, taking place throughout October 2026. The campaign aims to move beyond climate dialogue by highlighting practical action, locally led solutions and community resilience. Social media and digital platforms will play an important role in sharing climate stories, knowledge products, campaign activities, events and calls to action with wider audiences.

The campaign will have a strong focus on Myanmar and Asia and the Pacific, while also welcoming engagement from Africa, the Arab States, Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America and other regions. Through this wider outreach, the campaign seeks to connect climate actors across countries, encourage knowledge exchange, increase international visibility and support collaboration on climate resilience and sustainable development.

Online Volunteers will support the campaign’s social media presence and international digital outreach throughout October 2026. They will help share UN-Habitat-approved communication materials through relevant social media, professional, academic, youth, climate and community networks. Depending on their skills and assigned roles, volunteers may also support the localization or translation of selected content.

Their contribution will help extend the campaign’s reach, strengthen cross-regional and multilingual communication where possible, and make information about Myanmar’s climate challenges, local solutions and climate-action initiatives more accessible to regional and international audiences.

Online Volunteers will work remotely under the guidance of the UN-Habitat Myanmar focal point and designated campaign coordinators. They will receive approved communication materials, orientation and guidance to ensure that their contributions are accurate, consistent and aligned with the objectives of the Myanmar Climate Action Campaign 2026.

Building on the experience and momentum of Myanmar Climate Action Week in 2023, 2024, and 2025, UN-Habitat Myanmar, together with the Myanmar Climate Action Network (M-CAN), is expanding its climate communication and outreach through the Myanmar Climate Action Campaign 2026. The campaign will use social media and digital networks to increase the visibility of locally led climate action in Myanmar, Asia and the Pacific and will also welcome regions from around the world to share knowledge and practical solutions. It aims to connect climate actors across countries and regions and strengthen engagement with international development partners, professional networks, academic institutions, youth, civil society, and other relevant audiences.

UN-Habitat Myanmar is seeking online volunteers from diverse geographic and language backgrounds to support the international social media presence of the campaign. Volunteers are particularly encouraged to apply from countries and regions across Asia and the Pacific—including Thailand, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, and other countries in the region—as well as from Africa; the Arab States, including the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East; Europe, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Spain, Denmark, and Türkiye; Eastern Europe and Central Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; the United States; Israel; and other countries and regions where volunteers can contribute to broader international outreach.

Optional multilingual support: Volunteers with relevant language skills may also support multilingual communication, depending on their skills, interests, and assigned roles. Languages may include English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, Spanish, German, Arabic, Turkish, Danish, and Norwegian, among others, as appropriate to the country, region, or audience. Other relevant languages may also be included based on volunteer profiles and campaign needs. Multilingual support is an added contribution and is not a mandatory requirement for all online volunteers.

Main tasks

Working under the guidance of the UN-Habitat Myanmar focal point and designated campaign coordinators, Online Volunteers will:

• Participate in an initial online orientation on Myanmar Climate Action Campaign, campaign objectives, communication guidance, branding, key messages, hashtags and expected outputs.
• Work individually and as part of a coordinated country, regional or language team, depending on their location, language skills and professional networks.
• Receive approved campaign materials from UN-Habitat Myanmar, including social media messages, graphics, photographs, videos, web links, hashtags, event information and other communication materials.
• Support the social media presence and international amplification of Myanmar Climate Action Campaign by sharing approved content through appropriate social media platforms and relevant professional or community networks.
• Adapt or localize approved messages for the assigned country, region or audience when requested, while maintaining the meaning and communication objectives of the original material.
• Where relevant and agreed as part of the volunteer's assignment, support translation or localization of selected campaign messages or short communication materials. Translated or substantially adapted content must follow UN-Habitat communication guidance and be submitted for review and approval where required before dissemination.
• Help identify appropriate public communication channels, climate networks, professional associations, universities, youth networks, civil society platforms, development communities and other relevant networks where approved campaign information could be appropriately shared.
• Support outreach to audiences across Asia and the Pacific, Africa, the Arab States, Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America and other relevant regions, helping make information about Myanmar's climate challenges, locally led solutions, climate resilience initiatives and M-CAN activities more accessible and visible.
• Amplify selected Myanmar Climate Action Campaign activities, announcements, climate stories, knowledge products, events and calls to action through appropriate digital and professional networks.
• Where appropriate, engage constructively with public comments, questions or interactions relating to campaign posts, following communication guidance provided by UN-Habitat Myanmar.
• Maintain a simple record of campaign activities, including the content shared, date, platform or communication channel, country/region reached, language where relevant, link to the post where available, and basic engagement information such as views, reactions, comments, reposts or shares.
• Provide a brief weekly progress update to the assigned coordinator through the agreed reporting mechanism.
• Participate in short virtual coordination meetings when required to receive campaign updates, discuss upcoming activities and address communication or localization questions.
• Submit a short final Social Media Outreach and Activity Summary describing activities completed, audiences and countries/regions reached, languages used where relevant, available engagement results, lessons learned and recommendations for future international climate communication.

Working arrangements

The assignment will be implemented remotely. Communication with UN-Habitat Myanmar and campaign coordinators will take place primarily through email, scheduled virtual meetings and agreed online collaboration channels.

Online Volunteers will be organized, where practical, into country, regional or language groups. Regional groupings may include Asia and the Pacific, Africa, the Arab States, Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean, depending on the number, location, interests and skills of selected volunteers.
Volunteers with additional language capacity may, on an optional basis, be assigned to support translation, localization or multilingual amplification alongside their main social media outreach responsibilities.

Volunteers will receive approved communication materials and campaign guidance from UN-Habitat Myanmar. They will not be expected to develop or communicate official UN positions independently.

Online Volunteers are also not expected to undertake fundraising, directly solicit financial contributions, negotiate partnerships, or represent themselves as UN-Habitat staff or official UN representatives. Their role is to support the visibility and dissemination of approved public information and strengthen the campaign's international digital reach.

The campaign will include an initial orientation and periodic coordination during the assignment. Because volunteers will be working across different countries, regions and time zones, most activities can be completed flexibly, although volunteers should make reasonable efforts to participate in scheduled orientation and coordination sessions.

Expected outputs

Each Online Volunteer is expected to contribute to the campaign through an agreed combination of the following outputs:

1. Participation in the campaign orientation and relevant coordination activities.
2. Regular dissemination and amplification of UN-Habitat-approved Myanmar Climate Action Month content through appropriate social media or professional networks.
3. Approximately 2–4 approved social media amplification or outreach actions per week, adjusted where appropriate according to the volunteer's assigned role and campaign schedule.
4. Optional: translation or localization of selected campaign messages for volunteers with relevant language capacity and where agreed as part of their assignment.
5. Identification of relevant communication channels and networks within the volunteer's assigned country, region or language group.
6. A simple weekly record of activities and available engagement results.
7. A short final activity summary covering contributions, geographic reach, language reach where relevant, engagement results, observations and recommendations.

The overall contribution of the Online Volunteer team will help extend Myanmar Climate Action Campaign beyond national audiences, connect Myanmar's climate-action experience with regional and international networks, strengthen multilingual climate communication where possible, and increase awareness of practical and locally led approaches to climate resilience.
